Mooshika.org - Welcome! Bienvenue!

In the Hindu religion, rats represent foresight and prudence, and white ones are very lucky. Mooshika is the name of the steed that Ganesh - god of new beginnings and of fire, knowledge, wisdom, literature and worldly success - rides upon. The steed, of course, is the intelligent and gentle rat. “Mooshika” means “little hoarder.”

In Ontario for Thanksgiving

I'm in Ontario for Thanksgiving, and not being home means, inevitably, I get more done and more leisure time too. So I'm blogging.

I have delivered 4 boxes of Lab Diet to Toronto Animal Services for their four locations, one box to the Toronto Humane Society, and one box to the Newmarket OSPCA. There, I saw the tiniest little baby rat - no more than 6-7 weeks old - who is beginning to have congested sounds in her chest. All alone and removed from her mom too young, I'm adopting her to integrate with my girls. Even though they are all 2 years old and I have to rehome them for what is likely the rest of their lives, while I go to Denmark and Europe for one year.

I've got two old ladies with me this holiday - one is (shortly) dying of old age and poor health, and her sister is a little depressed from being away from home this weekend. She will be rehomed in November to a good home with at least two friends. I need to find another home who will take my other girls, including this new little one, or I will be splitting them into groups of 3 and 3 and 3. There is even a small chance, if I find a Danish foster home to look after them until I find my own place, that I would take 3 of them with me. Ideas, though impractical ones, to keep the seniors with me.

As I have about 38 or so boxes of Lab Diet in my garage, I will be sending another shipment to Ontario, and I am looking for people in the US who can help redistribute what remains to shelters in New England. Lastly if Sicero and her daughters go to Fredericton as planned, I'll take the last 5 - 10 boxes or so back east for my colleagues there.
